Why study Real Estate
Real estate is one of the most noticeable sectors in every economy with lots of job opportunities for students. Therefore, a degree in finance with a concentration in real estate adds a competitive edge over a traditional finance degree. Students will learn and analyze the various phases of real estate development, practical application of market analysis, key metrics in real estate underwriting, and financial analysis. In addition, trends in real estate development will be examined as well.
All faculty in this program have a Ph. D or a DBA in Finance. Some have exclusive expertise in real estate, and routinely publish in some of the top academic journals in real estate and related disciplines. In addition, professional realtors, and related business owners, take turns to deliver a seminar style lecture to student on current state of affairs and best practices in the real estate sector.
Faculty-led experiential opportunities provide student access to real-world connections and experiences within the broader field of Finance, and real estate in particular. Experiences include: guest lectures from industry leaders and community experts, and participation at academic conferences including the Financial Planners Association Conference of Middle Tennessee, and the Tennessee Bankers’ Credit Conference in Nashville.
The College of Business provides funding and scholarship opportunities for students
to participate at community events like the Financial Planners Association Conference
of Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Bankers’ Credit Conference, other professional/academic
conferences, and networking functions. Students also have direct access to the College
of Business Career Readiness Coach, who helps with career advising, preparation, and
job search.
